TreeLiving.com was invited to cover the 22nd Annual Environmental Media Awards celebration on Saturday, September 29, 2012. The Environmental Media Association recognized seven films, television and digital programs for their outstanding contributions to environmental causes and green initiatives in programming and filmmaking.

The event also honored Jessica Alba

(EMA Green Parent Award), Kelly Chapman Meyer (EMA Lifetime Achievement Award), Elon Musk (EMA Corporate Responsibility Award) and Ian Somerhalder (EMA Futures Award). Honorees, presenters and guests all braved “Carmageddon” to show their support and attended the event. The evening was presented by Toyota and Lexus and held at Warner Bros Studios in Los Angeles.

Actress Malin Akerman hosted the evening and opened the show by rocking out a brand new song with her band, started with her husband, Roberto Zincone. Other highlights of the evening included a humorous opening debate on climate change featuring Julie Bowen and Constance Zimmer, who then presented Veep with the award for Episodic Comedy.

“Congratulations to all of the 2012 EMA winners and honorees,” said EMA President Debbie Levin. “For twenty two years now we have recognized the entertainment programs and individuals who are inspiring change and social awareness around the world. We continue to be excited by the innovative ways the entertainment industry makes a difference for the planet.”

The awards were truly a green production: dinnerware was compostable and glassware was reusable; chef stations utilized local, seasonal and organic food; many presenters and attendees wore green designers; and leftover food was donated to the homeless and the hungry through the Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition.

Guests of the evening included honorees Jessica Alba (EMA Green Parent Award), Kelly Chapman Meyer (EMA Lifetime Achievement Award), Elon Musk (EMA Corporate Responsibility Award) and Ian Somerhalder (EMA Futures Award) with additional guests: Emily VanCamp, Julie Bowen, Danny DeVito, Tobey Maguire, Paula Abdul, Adam Scott, Frances Fisher, Kat Graham, Carla Gugino, Jessica Szohr, Lance Bass, Constance Zimmer, Carter Oosterhouse, Gabrielle Reece, Gabriel Mann, Josh Bowman, Jesse Metcalfe, Amy Smart, James Van Der Beek, Rob Riggle, Wilmer Valderrama and many more!
