"The whole universe depends on everything fitting together just right. If one piece busts, even the smallest piece… the whole universe will get busted."
This year, the celebration of the Academy Awards will be dressed in green thanks to a movie called ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’, a movie that teaches us, among other things, about our planet and the consequences of climate change.
‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ tells the story of Hushpuppy, a 6-year-old girl faced with her father''s fading health as the rising temperatures melt the ice caps and the sea levels swell, causing a race of prehistoric beasts (known as ‘aurochs’) to emerge in order to reclaim the planet as their own.
Hushpuppy will have to face the natural world she always knew to be in balance as well as the universe that is no more and she will have to learn to fight for survival.
In Hushpuppy’s own words: “Sometimes you can break something so bad, that it can''t get put back together”
''Beasts of the Southern Wild'' is nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actress.

Benh Zeitlin, who directed and co-wrote the critically-acclaimed movie, may be a bit overwhelmed about the nominations. “I think that the most wonderful thing that I didn’t expect to be so powerful was to suddenly be part of the community of filmmakers of the world”
To add more, 9-year-old star, Quvenzhane Wallis, is the youngest actress to ever be nominated in the Best Actress category.
''Beasts of the Southern Wild’ will compete for Best Picture alongside ‘Amour’, ‘Django Unchained’, ’Les Miserables’, ‘Life of Pi’, ‘Lincoln’, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and ‘Zero Dark Thirty’.
