By China DeSpain Freeman Here’s a bit of weird news: The Peruvian government has made Mick Jagger an honorary tourism ambassador for the Amazon rainforest. Specifically, he is now the ambassador for the Madre de Dios area, a region which borders both Brazil and Bolivia. Jagger received the new title at a special ceremony, during which he was given gifts created by people indigenous to the region, includ ing bows, arrows, necklaces and a feathered headdress. Jagger’s job as ambassador is to help bring awareness to the protection of Peru’s delicate ecosystem. Juan Carlos Arzola, regional tourism director for the area, praised Jagger, saying, ”You are our ally. Your presence is a great support in our fight to protect our ecology, to the effort to draw world attention to the Madre de Dios area.” The rocker is reportedly staying in the Amazon, at a hotel in the Tambopata national forest, near Lima.
