An amazing new wireless charging technology called 'Plugless Power' and developed by Evatran is going to change the face of electric cars and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles , and more importantly, change the way people charge them.
The technology, which was unveiled at the Plug-In 2010 Conference last July, will now be commercialized with the assistance of Yakazi North America to make wireless eco friendly car charging to every residential, commercial, and industrial charging station in North America.
The technology behind Plugless Power
Many may question the Plugless Power system as being inefficient, or wonder whether it would charge as quickly as if it were directly plugged into an outlet in the traditional manner. But the Plugless Power promises to charge up to 3.3 kW of energy with efficiencies of up to 90%, and remain competitive with the amount of time required for wired charging to take place.
Making electric cars more convenient
It's hard to imagine never having to visit a gas station anymore, but it's even harder to imagine never even having to plug your vehicle in to charge it up. The new system to be released will allow drivers of eco friendly cars like the Nissan Leaf or even the Toyota Prius to simply drive into their existing garage or parking spot, and with a Plugless Power System already set up, the vehicle will simply charge up for the next time you want to take it for a spin.
Evatran and Yakazi are also reportedly contacting auto manufacturers themselves to have the wireless power packs built right into the next generation of electric cars and plug-in hybrids, making the transition to Plugless Power even easier for drivers.
Keep an eye out for this awesome technology to make its way to eco friendly cars in the very near future, and check out the video below to see how a Chevy Volt would charge in a residential garage.
