Our friends over at Ecomagination have put together a list of five women involved in the sustainability sector – and we’re excited to Katherine Lucey of Solar Sister listed in the mix.

Haven’t heard of the charity? The group has only been around for just over a year but is already helping to change lives and access to clean energy in Uganda.

Using her background in investment banking for the energy sector, Lucey came up with a model where women sell solar lanterns using an Avon-style distribution system. Not only are they empowered with their own sustainable business, but the women (which currently number over 150) are also helping to spearhead a change from dirty kerosene lanters to clean solar energy.

“Without clean energy, you don’t have education, you don’t have clean water. Your children can’t study effectively,” Lucey said earlier this year.

It’s an inspiring effort – and one of five Ecomagination is spotlighting. In addition, the site is giving readers access to Lucey with opportunities to ask any questions regarding her group, challenges faced in starting her non-profit, areas in the developing world that need help, etc. Who knows – she might inspire you to start your own life-changing initiative.

To ask a question, simply pull up either Facebook or Twitter. On FB, ask the question on the Ecomagination wall. On Twitter, use the hashtag #ctwomen and include your handle
