People who have visited downtown Los Angeles this week have probably found a crowd of protesters with graphic photos of alleged animal abuse outside the Staples Center. They were PETA members and other group activists that have gathered to protest against the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Why? The routine of ringling consists o f "shocking elephants with electric prods, gouges and beating them with bullhooks until they scream, then they are chained for hours and days on end" according to PETA director of captive animal law enforcement. This is obvious animal abuse.
"You cannot get elephants to do these unnatural and often painful tricks without negative enforcement" she told.
TreeLiving was there yesterday to support the protest as well as voice our opinion about the issue.
