Almost the entire ice surface of Greenland has melted within four days, recent NASA’s satellite images have shown.
Although it is normal that some of the ice melts during summer, the images show a 97% loss of ice between July 8 and July 12.
This was so extraordinary that at first I questioned the result: was this real or was it due to a data error?” NASA”s Jet Propulsion Spokeman told the press.
Should we be worried? According to records, this type of phenomenon has not occurred since 1889 and it usually happens once every 150 years. However, at this point we cannot say climate change has no relation with this issue. “If we continue to observe melting events like this in upcoming years, it will be worrisome.” told NASA glaciologist Lora Koenig.
