The heat wave that is affecting China these days has raised alert about contamination and climate change in the country. The Chinese government announced that is setting aside nearly $500 billion to control the unabated air pollution in major Chinese cities in order to prevent the contamination of water resources across the country.
Contamination in China has been a growing problem for several years, but it was until the air pollution reached unacceptable levels in their major cities that citizens started to speak up and show concern about the environment they live in. Nowadays, it is very common to see Chinese citizens on the streets demanding cleaner air and water quality.
Now, this step towards environmental protection is supposed to be “the most aggressive policy effort to address air-quality issues in Chinese history” according to China’s environmental ministry officials. In addition, it is expected that climate change will top the agenda of this week’s broad US-Chinese strategic dialogue.
