Perhaps you have gone green in all areas of your life, such as remodeling your home with solar panels, an organic garden, and recycled materials for every remodeling project in your home. Maybe you have even recommended water saving devices and a recycle program at your office.
However, if you stop to think about it for a moment, you can go green in virtually any room in your home, as well as any area of your life. Have you ever stopped to think about going green while exercising? Going green while exercising is a great way to incorporate necessary exercise with saving and preserving an already diminishing environment.
Going green while exercising is better than turning blue from exercise and here are a couple of ways to incorporate that greenness into your exercise regime.
Skip the Gym
While you will not hear much advice about skipping the gym these days, perhaps a new perspective on where and when to exercise is in order. Is there any way that you can exercise at home? Do you have a basement or even an office that you can sneak in a fifteen or twenty minute exercise routine in without being disturbed?
If you are fortunate enough to work from home, how about a thirty-minute workout during your lunch hour? Then why not try a yoga session or an aerobic workout, or better yet, alternate during the week from one to the other.
Hit the Trails
If you go to the gym, chances are you are driving. Unless you are carpooling, you are really not being eco-friendly in your exercise life. How about hitting the trails and going for a walk or a hike? Bring your dog or grab a friend and hit the trails.
Take a Jog around the Block
If you do not want to waste electricity to plug into the treadmill at the the gym and better yet, if you want to save fuel at the same time, how about taking a jog around the block? Not only will you get the same cardio benefit, but you will also get benefit of seeing all things that are from Mother Nature. You may even stop for a moment and jog in place as you interact with a friend or neighbor.
Bring out the Bicycle
How about bringing out the bicycle? Your bicycle requires no electricity or fuel and gets you
going to great places instead of standing still on a stationery bike at the gym.
Walk it Out
If you are not a big fan of jogging or biking, how about a power walk on the boardwalk of your favorite beach? You can walk just about anywhere: hiking trails, around your neighborhood, the beach, a park. What’s nice about walking is that you can alternate; start up walking and then switch off to power walking and then do a cool down, as well.
Exercise Clothing
Of course, when it comes to clothing for exercising you want to be cool and comfortable. Choices such as one hundred percent cotton are excellent workout and environmentally friendly choices to boot.
So, there you have it, a few great ways to stay green while working up a sweat.
